Eilersen Electrical Digital Systems has recently launched an updated intelligent instrumentation weighing system. This fully digital terminal, type 5024G, is the first product of its kind to feature the newly developed intelligent setup function.
Formed in 1969, Eilersen is a world leader in digital load cells, weighing instrumentation, and weighing solutions for industrial applications. The company develops, manufactures, and delivers industrial weighing systems centered on its patented capacitive technology.
Many of the largest players in the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, and offshore industries in more than 90 countries utilize Eilersen weighing solutions. This product is distributed throughout North America by Acuity Process Solutions LLC, Eilersen’s North American business partner serving the Life Sciences marketplace.
Benefits of Intelligent Setup
The intelligent instrumentation weighing system, which is controlled by a capacitive touch keyboard, communicates directly with Eilersen digital load cells. This linkage ensures a fully digital measuring chain with no accuracy loss as can occur in other strain-gauge systems that require internal analog-to-digital conversions. Additionally, the touch keyboard is designed to operate smoothly even in harsh industrial environments, making it highly wear resistant.
An intelligent setup eliminates the use of time-consuming installation instructions, manuals, and descriptions for standard applications. This has two main benefits:
- Reducing the time spent in the setup process.
- Reducing the risk of errors in the configuration of the weighing system.
The product’s intelligent setup feature can be utilized when installing and commissioning the weighing system. It automatically provides configuration suggestions for the range of technical weighing parameters to assist in optimizing the installation process.
When the system is first installed, the intelligent interface guides the user through a variety of system setup parameters. Given that the entire weighing system features onboard intelligence, enabling it to automatically recognize conditions such as the number of load cells and weighing range as well as offering scaling and division suggestions, most parameters can be selected by simply approving default parameter suggestions.
The weighing terminal also will offer suggestions and information for the following factors:
- Measuring time and filter settings to help optimize weighing system performance with regard to stability limit.
- Zero tracking.
- System calibration and corner calibration.
- Linearization.
- Diagnostic and serial number, etc. on all connected load cells.
Advantages of a Fully Measuring Load Chain
Because the instrumentation features a built-in digital interface suitable for all common fieldbus protocols, it is possible to construct a completely digital measurement chain, enabling the device to collect weighing data on a cell-by-cell basis. A digital measuring chain offers the advantage that communication is not impacted by electrical noise, as is often the case when analog signals are used.
Weighing applications available for the new intelligent setup feature include:
- filing;
- dosing;
- mixing;
- belt scales;
- loss-in-weight;
- check weighing; and
- crane scales.
These systems can be used for all weighing applications and in all industries in which optimal commissioning and high uptime levels are important.
Eilersen can also offer customized weighing software development for projects where the wide range of standard software cannot provide a solution.
Flexible and Easy-to-Configure Instrumentation
The standard option for the Eilersen weighing terminal type 5024G comes with EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and serial RS485 interfaces, along with analog 4-20mA output. Optionally, the system can be extended with a Profibus DP and PROFINET interface for communication with PLC, PC, and other peripherals such as printers and barcode readers.
All system functions can easily be controlled via the graphic high contrast display and capacitive touch keys. Standard equipment on the weighing terminal is an alibi function and 4 configurable 24Vdc I/O.
A new feature with this model, which is especially helpful when transferring mobile weighing systems between locations, is the ability to equip the weighing terminal and the load cells with the battery power supply needed to keep the system running for an extended period of time.
Weighing terminals are assembled, tested, and configured at Eilersen facilities in Denmark, where the company is based, and come ready for either panel mounting or in a stainless steel enclosure.
